What JaJa Retained

A recovered CDA case file documents the behavioral evaluation of a minor subject, designation JB-14, whose nightly episodes of 'unauthorized perceptual framing' have been flagged under the Cognitive Realignment intake protocol. The boy describes a recurring interior landscape he calls JaJa — an island that is both paradise and maze — and insists his father is somewhere inside it, waiting. The file is assembled from session transcripts, intake forms, and one handwritten note that was never formally logged. The horror is not what the CDA does to the boy. The horror is what the CDA concludes he is.

The page is sleeved in fresh acetate. You can hear it, even on the document scanner's audio capture, which the archivist left running by accident during digitization. A faint cling. A static whisper as the plastic releases the paper and the

The page is the wrong kind of paper. Every other document in the file has the tooth and weight of CDA letterhead, that bluish institutional bond that holds a stamp without bleeding. The page between Session 11 and Session 12 is yellow. Col
