According to Techcrunch.com, “Hewlett-Packard” has killed off its much ballyhooed Windows 7 tablet computer, says a source who’s been briefed on the matter.”
Insiders at HP were not happy with the power performance of the Windows 7 operating system as it requires too much power to be a viable option for a mobile tablet device. In related news, HP is set to acquire Palm for $1.2 billion and will most likely use the webOS as an alternate solution for their revamped tablet.
In order to succeed with this strategy HP will have to move a lot more units then Apple and convince 3rd party application developers that webOS is a healthy solution to the closed Apple OS. Additionally, HP will need to speed through the M&A process on both the business and technology front to gain traction in the tablet race as Apple has a million unit lead over their competitors a month after the iPad release.
It remains to be seen how HP will market this device and the impact the new operating system will have on the feature set.
